Sagrada Familia Towers

The Nativity Tower in Sagrada Familia is a richly decorated tower that celebrates the birth of Christ. It is the only tower that is constructed under the supervision of Antoni Gaudi, and you can get a chance to watch the original work of the architect. You will find a bridge that joins two towers of the Nativity Facade from each other, and taking a stroll on this bridge is a unique experience. Since the Nativity Tower faces the east, it offers marvellous views of the entire city and surrounding mountain ranges.

The Passion Tower is slightly different from the Nativity Tower. It is a representative of the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ. You will find a simplistic exterior on the Passion Tower compared to the other towers in Sagrada Familia. It is decorated with bare stone and sculpted with harsh straight lines that resemble the skeleton's bones. The tower faces westward, offering outstanding aerial views of the cool blue Mediterranean Sea. You can climb up the tower through an elevator, but you can only go down through stairs.

Though visitors can go up to the towers of the Sagrada Familia through an elevator, the only way to come down is via a long and narrow sequence of winding stairs. When we see the other works of Antoni Gaudi, whose personal architectural style took inspiration from the elements of nature, these stairs look like a snail. The towers at Sagrada Familia have an aggregate of 504 stairs that curl tightly around the closed walls without a railing. Although these stairs are safe to climb and not physically tiring, people with claustrophobia, physical disabilities, and heart conditions are not advised to use them.

Jesus Tower connects four bridges to the Tower of Evangelists. This tower features a cross at the top with four bell-shaped arms enveloped by glasses and glazed ceramics. The Jesus Tower is the last tribute to Antoni Gaudi as it is one of the most typical forms of his renowned crosses. After the construction of Jesus Tower, it will have a height of 172.5 meters, a few meters lower than the Montjuic hill, which stands at 185 meters.

Mary Tower is the most recent construction at the Sagrada Familia, which was inaugurated on 8th December 2021. The Virgin star that overhangs the tower during this time was completely sealed. This star illuminates the entire city of Barcelona with its 12 light points.
